Front Line Medical Technologies, a company specializing in devices for emergency and trauma care, has launched its CE-marked COBRA-OS in the UK.

COBRA-OS is billed as the world’s smallest aortic occlusion device. It’s designed to save lives by rapidly controlling critical bleeding. COBRA-OS was the first 4 French aortic occlusion device of its kind to gain MDR approval.

This achievement allows the company to bring its tech to a market that has led the way in pre-hospital REBOA (Resuscitative Endovascular Balloon Occlusion of the Aorta) implementation. The UK’s role in REBOA started in 2018 when London’s Air Ambulance performed the world’s first pre-hospital REBOA procedure, showing the potential for this life-saving intervention outside of hospital walls.

COBRA-OS temporarily occludes the aorta to buy valuable time until definitive care can be provided. It has an ultra-low-profile 4 Fr size to minimize risk and boost accessibility. It also offers partial REBOA capability for tailored control of blood flow in complex trauma scenarios.

It includes an all-in-one system with 10cc syringe and mini-access kit for ease-of-use in high-pressure environments.

“The United Kingdom represents a crucial milestone in our mission to advance aortic occlusion technology and improve trauma care outcomes,” said Dr. Asha Parekh, CEO at Front Line Medical Technologies. “We designed this device to address critical time constraints in emergency settings, where rapid deployment and controlled occlusion can make a vital difference.”

Front Line has partnered with Mermaid Medical, a distributor of medical devices across Europe, to bring the COBRA-OS to healthcare providers throughout the UK. This collaboration extends beyond the UK to include the Nordic countries, leveraging Mermaid Medical’s experience in vascular and interventional products.
