Fresenius USA To Buy Xcorporeal for $8 Million

Company focuses on renal replacement devices.

Fresenius USA Inc. has signed an agreement to acquire Xcorporeal Inc. for $8 million, according to the Walnut Creek, Calif.-based firm.

Lake Forest, Calif.-based Xcorporeal, which focuses on renal replacement devices, has been developing:

• A portable artificial kidney for attended care renal replacement therapy for patients suffering from acute renal failure

• A portable artificial kidney for home hemodialysis for patients suffering from end-stage renal disease

• A wearable artificial kidney for continuous ambulatory hemodialysis for treatment of end-stage renal disease

Kelly McCrann, chairman and CEO of Xcorporeal, said, “We believe that Fresenius is the best possible partner for our innovative dialysis technology, and this transaction represents the best approach to maximizing shareholder value. This announcement follows an extensive review of a range of strategic alternatives for the company, including our continuing as an independent entity, exploring mergers and acquisitions, as well as numerous financing alternatives.”

The deal’s closing is set to occur on or before Feb. 28.
