FDA Clears Siemens Healthineers’ Magnetom Cima.X MR Scanner

Siemens Healthineers has earned U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for its Magnetom Cima.X 3 Tesla (3T) MRI whole-body scanner.
 
Siemens said it has the strongest-ever gradient system for a clinically released whole-body MR scanner. This makes smaller body structures visible and captures images more quickly than previous MR scanners. New features were also included to boost scientific research and surmount key imaging challenges during visualization of cancer and other diseases.
 
The company designed its Gemini Gradeints to have an amplitude of 200 mT/m and a slew rate of 200 T/m/s, 2.5 times higher than Siemens’ currently available MR gradients and the strongest of any clinically available whole-body scanner. This can bring about better study of neurodegenerative diseases by increasing visibility of microstructures, according to the company.
 
More new features include Physiologging time-stamped physiological data from the patient like heart and respiratory rates. Magnetom Cima.X’s Open Recon platform lets clinicians run custom algorithms for image reconstructions directly on the scanner.
 
To further help research, Open Recon also allows data-sharing between scanners and institutions.
