Expert Urges Caution When Outsourcing to China

Theft of intellectual property (IP) is a challenge when outsourcing production to China, so a company may want to take preventive measures such as contracting for only part of its production operations. “IP is one of the biggest concerns in China,” Rob Handfield, a professor at North Carolina State University, said during an FDAnews audioconference. “It may be that you outsource part of the operation but not all of it, in terms of retaining the key ingredients — the key components — that are going to enable you to retain the IP.”
