Elekta AB has a new leader. The 41-year-old Swedish company has appointed Niklas Savander as its next president and CEO, effective May 1, 2014. Savander will succeed Tomas Puusepp, who will continue with Elekta as a working member of its board of directors focusing on strategic matters and market-developments as of the same date.

Savander has held senior management positions within Hewlett-Packard and Nokia, most recently serving as a member of Nokia’s executive management team that ran the company’s daily operations. At Hewlett-Packard, he served in various sales, marketing and business unit roles in Finland, Germany and Switzerland. He currently is a private equity adviser in Helsinki, Stockholm and London, United Kingdom.

“We are very pleased to appoint such an experienced executive as Niklas Savander,” said Laurent Leksell, Elekta’s founder, former CEO and board chairman. “His deep understanding of global technology industries, as well as his experience from international markets, is suited to lead Elekta through our next phase of growth.”

Leksell praised Puusepp, noting he helped the company become a full-service radiation therapy firm. “I am pleased that Tomas has decided to continue working for Elekta as a full-time member of the Board of Directors.” he said.

Savander will join Elekta on Jan. 1 to prepare for his springtime ascension to CEO.

Elekta is a Stockholm-based company that provides radiation therapy, radiosurgery, related equipment and clinical management for the treatment of cancer and brain disorders.
