Heart valve maker Edwards Lifesciences Corp. has said it will disclose payments to doctors for consulting work starting next year.

This decision by the Irvine, CA company comes on the heels of legislation introduced by U.S. Sen. Charles Grassley, (R-Iowa) that would require drug and medical device makers to disclose consulting payments of $5,000 or more made to doctors.

The company said it would put the information on its Web site, www.edwards.com.

The firm has “been supportive of federal legislation that would require all companies to disclose this information,” chief executive Michael Mussallem said.
