China’s healthcare sector is experiencing significant investment in robotic technologies, fueled by a growing demand for advanced medical solutions. Accordingly, the country’s neurosurgery robotic systems market is projected to grow 12% annually between 2023 and 2033, according to GlobalData.

The market research firm’s report, “Robotic Surgical Systems Market Size by Segments, Share, Regulatory, Reimbursement, Installed Base and Forecast to 2033,” reveals that China held a 35% market share in Asia-Pacific’s neurosurgery robotic systems sector last year.

“A transformational shift in the healthcare sector has occurred due to the rapid integration of robotic systems into neurosurgery,” GlobalData Medical Analyst Aditi Dakshesh Parikh said. “This has accelerated market growth, improved accuracy in identifying and correcting brain abnormalities, reduced the risk of complications, and shortened patient recovery times. In particular, in the treatment of diseases such as brain tumors, epilepsy, and Parkinson’s disease, where precision is crucial for success, these benefits are significant.”

A University of Hong Kong research team recently developed an interactive multi-stage robotic positioner for MRI-guided stereotactic neurosurgery. This compact, lightweight device fits standard imaging head coils and features custom wireless tracking markers and a zero-electromagnetic-interference system for real-time MRI registration. It supports various therapeutic applications, including biopsy, drug delivery, ablation, and catheter placement. Yet to be commercialized, this technology is a significant advancement, enabling precise interventions in procedures such as deep-brain stimulation for treating various neurological conditions.

“With continuous technological advancements and increasing investment in healthcare infrastructure, the Chinese market is expected to witness substantial growth in the coming years. The increasing adoption of neurosurgery robotic systems represents a significant step forward in the evolution of neurosurgical procedures, promising better outcomes for patients and advancing the field of neurosurgery,” Parikh concluded.
