In response to industrywide investigations into financial relationships between doctors and medical device companies, some firms are ramping up their efforts to create more transparency.

In the wake of three whistle-blower suits involving promotion of off-label device uses, Medtronic disclosed information in a registry on its website last month about more than $1 million it donated to customers and affiliated groups between May and July.

In a similar move, Zimmer Holdings changed its sales practices this past spring following a $310 million civil settlement reached last year between a U.S. attorney and five orthopedic companies.
