Dentsply Sirona’s 2021 Sales Rebound, Growing 27 Percent

Dentsply Sirona today reported financial results for the fourth quarter and full year of its fiscal 2021. The company bounded back from diminished sales due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with full year 2021 sales rising 27.2 percent to reach $4.2 billion. Net income was $421 million, or $1.91 diluted share, compared to 2020’s net income loss of $83 million.
 
Fourth quarter 2021 sales of $1.1 billion, however, were flat compared to 2020, rising 0.6 percent over the year prior. Technologies & equipment segment sales reached $676 million in Q4, up 6.8 percent over the previous year, driven by strong CAD/CAM software, implants, and orthodontics product performance. Consumables sales were down 8.3 percent to $412 million.
 
For the full year 2021, technologies & equipment’s $2.5 billion in sales represented a 28.7 percent boost over the prior year. Consumables made up the remaining $1.7 billion, rocketing upward 25 percent over 2020.
 
“Our 2021 performance reflects the resilience of the dental market, the strength of our global portfolio, and our team’s ability to execute well in an environment still impacted by the pandemic. We delivered strong results with organic sales growth of nearly 25 percent, double-digit EPS growth, and solid cash flow generation. We made meaningful progress on the commitments we set three years ago to strengthen the foundation of the business and position it for long-term sustainable growth,” Don Casey, Dentsply Sirona’s CEO told the press. “We are optimistic about our future. We have a healthy innovation pipeline, a well-positioned portfolio, and new strategic partnerships to accelerate our growth. Dental is an attractive market and we will lead transformation in digital dentistry supporting our mission to create innovative solutions for healthy smiles.”
 
Last week Dentsply Sirona unveiled its medical-grade 3D printing system for dental practices. The hardware and software solution runs the entire printing process, including post-processing. The company also began collaborating with Google Cloud to help maximize digital dentistry benefits via a digital ecosystem to support dental practice end-to-end workflows.
 
In December the firm expanded its partnership with 3Shape for seamless connectivity for dentists and dental labs by integrating Primescan and Omnicam scanners with 3Shape’s lab software.
