One week after Datascope Corp. said it might sell itself, the Montvale medical products company bought a vascular stent business from Milan, Italy-based Sorin Group. The companies did not disclose the financial terms of the deal, which gives Datascope ownership of Sorin”s worldwide peripheral vascular stent product business and a portfolio of intellectual property.

Datascope manufactures and markets products for the cardiology and radiology, cardiovascular and vascular surgery, and critical care markets. The company says the worldwide market for peripheral vascular stents and related products is estimated to be $800 million a year.

On June 4, Datascope announced it would “explore strategic alternatives,” including the possibility of being acquired, following the company”s sale of its patient-monitoring business.
