Creganna-Tactx Acquires ABT Medical

The purchase will bolster Creganna-Tactx’s balloon design and manufacturing capabilities.

Galway, Ireland-based Creganna-Tactx Medical, provider of medical device outsourcing services, has completed the acquisition of ABT Medical, a designer and manufacturer of medical balloons for minimally invasive devices. ABT is headquartered in Wexford, Ireland.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

ABT Medical—which specializes in vascular and angioplasty balloons—has developed a proprietary processing technology which enables the company to manufacture balloons up to and in excess of 300 mm in length, reportedly the longest commercially available balloon components within the industry. The technology also advances the manufacturing of various specialist balloons for other complex clinical applications such as valvuloplasty, gastrointestinal and endoscopic devices, and the delivery of cryoablation therapy.

The acquisition of ABT’s technology will augment Creganna-Tactx’s existing balloon design and manufacturing capabilities, particularly for peripheral vascular device applications, where the most sophisticated balloon specifications are required.

While continuing to serve its existing customer base, ABT’s technology also now will become immediately available to Creganna-Tactx Medical customers worldwide.
