ClearLine MD LLC announces the appointment of three new members to its Clinical Advisory Board to complete the five member board for 2017. Joining the Clinical Advisory Board are Sorin J. Brull, M.D., FCARCSI (Hon), F. Sessions Cole, M.D. and Jeffrey M. Feldman, M.D., MSE. Brull has extensive experience developing best practices for patient safety in anesthesiology. Cole brings a wealth of experience and expertise in the NICU to the Clinical Advisory Board, as ClearLine MD looks to expand its ClearLine IV system into the NICU environment. Feldman brings a wealth of experience in adult and pediatric anesthesiology to ClearLine MD. He is also a trained bioengineer and has actively worked with with many leading medtech companies in their product development initiatives. “Our newest members embody ClearLine MD’s commitment to patient safety and bring a wealth of expertise and experience in clinical and technology environments. We are fortunate and honored to have them on board as we continue to roll out ClearLine IV in hospitals worldwide,” said Ann M. Bilyew, president and CEO of ClearLine MD. Brull is a professor of anesthesiology at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and a consultant in the Department of Anesthesiology at the Mayo Clinic Florida. Brull serves as scientific reviewer for 20 medical journals, and he was editor of Patient Safety Section for Anesthesia & Analgesia journal for nine years (2007-2016). He has won numerous clinical and teaching honors; has been a co-investigator on a National Institutes of Health (NIH) R01 project, and has served as a consultant to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Brull also serves on the American Board of Anesthesiology as a senior examiner, and he has been a member of the executive committee and chaired the Scientific Evaluation Committee of the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation grant program between 1998 and 2014. He is an elected member of the Association of University Anesthesiologists and the Academy of Anesthesiology. He has delivered hundreds of lectures both nationally and internationally, has served as visiting professor at 50 national and international universities, and has authored over 350 peer-reviewed manuscripts, editorials, letters, books, chapters, educational videos, and abstracts. Brull attended medical school at West Virginia University School of Medicine, and completed his internship and residency in anesthesiology at Yale University School of Medicine, where he served on the faculty for a decade after completing his training. Cole is an academic neonatologist with more than 30 years of clinical experience who currently serves as the Park J. White, M.D., professor of pediatrics, assistant vice chancellor for Children’s Health, executive vice chairman of the Department of Pediatrics, chief of the Division of Newborn Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine, and chief medical officer at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. His work has led to both neonatal and prenatal diagnosis of inherited forms of neonatal respiratory distress syndrome and to treatment with lung transplantation. Cole joined St. Louis Children’s Hospital in 1986 and has helped to make the Hospital’s Pediatric Lung Transplant Program the largest and most experienced program in the world. Cole has also led and reviewed research for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Academy of Medicine. He recently (2016) completed service as chairman of the Respiratory Integrative Biology and Translational Research Study Section at NHLBI. His expertise on subjects including premature birth, pre-conception planning, and assisted reproductive technologies have been chronicled in Pregnancy and Parenting magazines, ABC news, and The Wall Street Journal. Cole graduated from Yale University School of Medicine. Feldman is an attending anesthesiologist at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), director of Perioperative IT at CHOP, and a professor of clinical anesthesiology and critical care medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. Feldman is internationally recognized as an expert in the technology of anesthesia delivery systems including mechanical ventilation of the anesthetized patient and patient monitoring. Throughout his career, Feldman has combined his background in engineering with an interest in the use of technology to enhance patient care. In addition to publishing and lecturing on technology related topics, he has been an editor for the Journal of Clinical Monitoring and Computing as well as the section editor of the technology section of Anesthesia and Analgesia. He is an active peer reviewer for professional journals including Anesthesia and Analgesia, Pediatric Anesthesia and Simulation in Healthcare. Feldman has been a member of the Committee on Technology for the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation for many years and is also a member of the Board of Directors. He has also served for many years on the Committee on Equipment and Facilities for the American Society of Anesthesiologists. Until 2017, Feldman served more than 10 years as division chief in general anesthesia at CHOP. Feldman studied physics as an undergraduate at Franklin and Marshall College and completed a master’s degree in bioengineering at the University of Pennsylvania prior to attending Albany Medical College, where he received his medical degree. Brull, Cole, and Feldman join two ClearLine board members, Achi Ludomirsky, M.D., and Jerry Stonemetz, M.D., to round out and strengthen the Clinical Advisory Board. ClearLine MD is founded and funded by forward-thinking device engineers based on first-hand knowledge of an avoidable adverse event, air embolism. The company is delivering a new standard of care for eliminating air from IV lines and avoiding the clinical complications associated with air embolism.
