Cardinal Kicks Off $50M Expansion

Cardinal Health Inc. has broken ground on a $50 million expansion of its Dublin headquarters. The company is beginning construction on a new west campus facility for its Healthcare Supply Chain Services sector, a combination of the company’s pharmaceutical and medical products businesses that accounted for $84.1 billion, about 97 percent, of its fiscal 2007 revenue. The 250,000-square-foot expansion, which nearly doubles the size of the company’s campus, will be built under Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards in an attempt to get certification from the ecofriendly U.S. Green Building Council. The facility, set to open in spring 2009, will feature several new amenities for employees and an open-office setup to spur collaboration, the company said. Cardinal is adding more than 700 jobs at its Dublin office through the expansion. The company is transferring the jobs from a facility in Waukegan, Ill., after having consolidated its medical products business – run through the Waukegan facility – with its pharmaceutical arm. The company has said in Securities and Exchange Commission filings that the employee transition, including relocation and severance packages for employees who don’t take the transfer, will cost about $45 million. The new facility will house those 700 employees and an additional 500 from offices in Dublin. Cardinal Health (NYSE:CAH), the largest publicly held company in Ohio, recorded $1.9 billion in profit on $86.9 billion in revenue in its fiscal 2007. The company employs more than 43,000 worldwide, including 3,500 in Ohio with 2,700 in Central Ohio. SOURCE: American City Business Journals
