Medical device maker Boston Scientific Corp. of Natick, MA said that the FDA approved two of its balloon catheters for sale, according to the Associated Press. The agency approved the company’s Sterling Monorail and Over-the-Wire catheters. Both catheters are used to perform minimally invasive vascular surgery in the kidneys, the lower extremities, and for dialysis fistula, a procedure used for blood filtration. Balloon catheters are normally inserted through a puncture in the femoral artery and guided to a blocked blood vessel, where they are inflated to open up a pathway.
