BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) has made further investments in its U.S. manufacturing network to add capacity for critical devices including syringes, needles, and IV catheters.

This is part of the company’s over $10 million investment to expand manufacturing capacity. New needle and syringe production lines were installed at BD’s Connecticut and Nebraska plants. One line is fully operational, with additional lines to start up in the coming months.

The new lines will augment BD’s capacity of U.S. manufactured, safety-engineered injection devices by over 40% and conventional syringes by over 50%, adding hundreds of millions of units. The company also hired more than 215 full-time employees at its Nebraska and Connecticut facilities to support the growing production.

BD has further plans for over $30 million of investments in 2025 to increase manufacturing capacity for IV lines at its Utah plant, supporting catheter solutions growth. The company invested over $2 million in 2024 for IV line improvements that increased IV catheter output by over 40 million units annually.

“Domestic manufacturing is crucial for ensuring a resilient supply of essential health care devices,” said Eric Borin, president of Medication Delivery Solutions at BD. “By expanding our production capacity, we are not only meeting the critical needs of patients and providers, but we also are reinforcing our commitment to the nation’s health care infrastructure.”

Last month, the company and Babson Diagnostics announced a new blood testing process to advance fingertip blood collection and testing technologies for use by U.S. health systems.
