Baxter’s Sharesource Boosts Time on Home Dialysis by Over 3 Months

Baxter today released new data from a 1,500-patient study showing use of its Sharesource remote patient management with an automated peritoneal dialysis (APD) cycler can improve home kidney care’s clinical effectiveness by extending time on therapy by 3.4 months.
 
“Time on therapy is one of the most important indicators of clinical effectiveness and quality improvement for home kidney patients using remote patient management,” Peter Rutherford, MB BS, Ph.D., VP, Medical Affairs, Baxter Renal Care, told the press. “Sharesource is a valuable tool in enabling healthcare professionals’ visibility and timely support of their home patients, which is a key factor in a growing body of clinical evidence that the digital health platform is supporting enhanced care.”
 
Sharesource allows clinicians to monitor home dialysis and remotely adjust therapy as needed. It’s been shown to reduce hospitalizations and costs, travel to clinical facilities, and wait times.^1-5
 
The study compared outcomes for patients receiving APD with or without remote management. Patients in the remote management group averaged 18.9 months on dialysis, and those without it averaged 15.5 months. There wasn’t statistically significant difference in mortality rate.
