Bausch + Lomb has launched its Zenlens Chroma HOA scleral contact lenses, which were designed to correct higher-order aberrations (HOA), in the U.S. The custom, wavefront-guided scleral lens improves clarity by reducing halos and glare, the company said.

Zenlens proprietary tech like SmartCurve and Bi-Elevation help to achieve the secure lens fit needed for HOA correction. Once lens stability is secured, custom correction is applied to the lens to reduce HOAs and minimize blurring and distortion.

“Zenlens CHROMA HOA is a high-quality, customizable lens that fills a critical gap in scleral lens vision correction, especially for patients with complex corneal irregularities,” said Yang Yang, president, Global Vision Care, Bausch + Lomb. “Eye care professionals in the U.S. now have a new solution for patients that previously had limited options to improve vision quality.”

The company is working with Advance Medical and OVITZ to help integrate Zenlens Chroma HOA into eye care practices. Avance Medical’s FocalPoints software, a platform for specialty lens manufacturing, allows seamless, precise production. OVITZ, the first company to develop an aberrometry system for HOA correction, is offering its xwave aberrometer device.

“For years, I’ve had patients who struggle with visual distortions caused by higher-order aberrations, and there was little I could do beyond basic correction,” said Jason Jedlicka, OD, chief of cornea and contact lens service and clinical professor, Indiana University School of Optometry. “With Zenlens CHROMA HOA, I can offer a level of precision that wasn’t previously possible, and my patients can experience sharper vision and improved clarity, which has a significant impact on their quality of life.”

Earlier this month, Bausch + Lomb eceived CE mark approval for its LuxLife range of vision intraocular lenses (IOLs). The preloaded IOL offers natural, continuous vision from distance to near.
