Bard Closes Purchase of Genyx Medical

Murray Hill, NJ-based C. R. Bard has completed the purchase of Aliso Viejo, CA-based Genyx Medical for $60 million after Genyx’s Uryx device received PMA approval.

The FDA in December approved the company’s major product, the Uryx, a polymer inserted into tissue surrounding a patient’s urethra to reduce or eliminate stress urinary incontinence.

Bard is a maker of vascular, urology, oncology and surgical specialty products.

“With the aging population and the increasing demand for more effective, minimally invasive therapies for stress urinary incontinence, we view this acquisition as an important opportunity for Bard,” said C.R. Bard CEO Timothy M. Ring.
