Autonomix has begun an agreement with RF Innovations to license the intellectual property (IP) to its Apex 6 radiofrequency (RF) generator.

Apex 6 is a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-cleared ablation technology to lesion neural tissue for peripheral nervous system pain management.

The deal, for 250,000 common stock shares, gives Autonomix a perpetual, non-exclusive, worldwide, and royalty-free license for Apex 6 IP. Autonomix said it plans to use the tech in its strategic therapeutic areas, initially developing its technology to address pancreatic cancer-related pain. The company has plans for follow-on indications after the results of initial data.

Activites will begin immediately with an RF Innovations manufacturing partner, who will be added to Autonomix’s manufacturing supply chain.

This transaction is anticipated to close before the end of July.

“This transaction represents a significant step forward for the development and commercialization of our innovative technology platform and can potentially simplify our regulatory strategy, as the Apex 6 Generator is already FDA-cleared in pain management,” said Brad Hauser, president and CEO of Autonomix.

Hauser was named chief executive for the Texas-based company last month. Autonomix also entered a service agreement with NoiseFigure Research last month to advance its catheter-based sensing technology.

“I would like to commend our team for their hard work in identifying and validating this compatible radio frequency ablation generator that will be used in conjunction with our novel sensing device,” Hauser went on. “Additionally, the team from RF Innovations is deeply experienced in the development and manufacturing of radio frequency generators and their assistance will be invaluable as we move our system forward towards commercialization. Together, we can work to adapt the technology for our specific use case and accelerate our journey to revolutionize how diseases involving the nervous system are diagnosed and treated.”
