AngioDynamics Gets Boost in Patent Suit

AngioDynamics Inc. has received some good news from a California judge. The Queensbury medical device manufacturer is battling a patent infringement lawsuit brought by VNUS Medical Technologies of San Jose, Calif. The trial was originally scheduled to start Oct. 29, but was delayed by a scheduling conflict in U.S. District Court in the Northern District of California. Judge Maxine Chesney did, however, grant AngioDynamics (Nasdaq: ANGO) a summary judgment saying that it did not willfully infringe on VNUS’ patent by making and selling products to treat varicose veins using radiofrequency energy. The ruling prevents the potential tripling of damages in the event that a jury finds that AngioDynamics did, in fact, infringe on VNUS’ patent. SOURCE: The Business Review
