Alcon, AMO Settle Patent Cases

Alcon of Ft. Worth, TX announced that it is paying Advanced Medical Optics $121 million to settle patent lawsuits involving eye surgery technologies, according to the Associated Press.
   According to Alcon, the company will pay the money in one lump sum in July to the Santa Ana, CA-based manufacturer of ophthalmic surgical products and contact lens care products.
   Because Alcon had accrued $242 million in a previous judgment, Alcon will post a second-quarter pre-tax gain of about $121 million.
   The settlement resolved four pending patent lawsuits between the companies
