AiM Medical Robotics, Siemens Healthineers Team Up on MRI Robotic Neurosurgery

AiM Medical Robotics, a developer of robotic systems for MRI-guided neurosurgery, began a collaboration agreement with Siemens Healthineers to implement an interface allowing AiM’s robotic platform to operate with Siemens Healthineers MRI systems.

The interface supports integration of AiM’s compact, MRI-compatible robotic stereotactic neurosurgery system and related workflow with Siemens Healthineers’ Magnetom MRI scanners. The duo believes the interface-based integration is a crucial step toward coordinated robot-MRI operation and builds a foundation for future partnership opportunities.

AiM has developed a unique MRI-compatible robotics platform with a first product allowing precision MRI-guided neurosurgery for quickly and accurately placing neurostimulator leads, performing tumor and epilepsy ablation, performing biopsies, and delivering therapeutics. AiM’s system will connect with Siemens’ MRI scanners ranging from 1.5T and 3T to 0.55T systems, including the recently launched Magnetom Free.XL.

The software interface allows data exchange and collaborative functions between the robotic platform and MRI system. The integration could enable real-time, in-bore neurosurgical precision to elevate image-guided therapies to new clinical and workflow standards.

Siemens Healthineers said it expressed continued interest in exploring broader software synchronization and compatibility developments with AiM’s tech through its third-party collaboration network.
