AGA Medical Holdings has won a patent-infringement case against German medical device firm Occlutech.

Plymouth, Minn.-based AGA, which manufactures products for treating heart problems, filed suit against Jena, Germany-based Occlutech in 2006.

A German court ruled in AGA’s favor in 2007 and an appeals court has upheld the ruling, according to the company.

It also determined that an Occlutech product released since the initial decision infringes on AGA’s patent.

Occlutech makes devices used to reduce or eliminate blood flow, a technique used to help treat tumors and reroute blood supply, among other tasks.

AGA makes a device called the Amplatzer, self-expanding mesh that is inserted into blood vessels to repair defects in the heart or vascular system.

AGA filed to go public with its stock offering last June.
