Aerin Medical has launched its next-gen RhinAer device and announced that UnitedHealthcare’s Medicare Advantage policy now covers RhinAer for posterior nasal nerve treatment.

The temperature- and impedance-controlled radiofrequency (RF) RhinAer+ device treats the posterior nasal nerve (PNN) and targets multiple anatomic contributors to chronic rhinitis. Chronic rhinitis is a condition with substantial adverse health impact, along with sleep quality and worker productivity consequences.

The RhinAer+ stylus includes a low-profile atraumatic tip to boost access and visibility, as well as a reinforced malleable shaft that offers tactile feel for tissue apposition and more support in challenging anatomy. Its ergonomic handle enables consistent control for bilateral treatment.

Matt Brokaw, president and CEO of Aerin Medical said the product’s development was guided by extensive feedback from physicians informed by experience in over 50,000 cases. It leveraged a platform characterized in 20 peer-reviewed cases.

“With expanded coverage from Cigna and UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage and multiple multi-year studies confirming sustained results with RhinAer technology, we’re seeing continued validation from both the clinical and payor communities,” Brokaw told the press.

“RhinAer+ is a meaningful advancement in how physicians like me treat chronic rhinitis,” said Mary Ashmead, MD, board-certified otolaryngologist at ENT Southlake. “The enhancements allow us to better tailor treatment for our patients, helping more of them experience lasting relief without ineffective cycles of medication or invasive surgery.”

In June, three-year study results were revealed that reinforce the durability of the company’s VivAer procedure for patients suffering from nasal airway obstruction (NAO) due to nasal valve collapse (NVC).
