Envoy Medical Inc. has bolstered its intellectual property portfolio with four new patents.

U.S. Pat. No. 12,151,1025, 2024, “Combination Hearing Aid and Cochlear Implant System,” relates to updating a transfer function associated with an implanted signal processor of a cochlear implant system to compensate for operation of an external auditory aid device, such as a hearing aid, that affects a stimulus received at an input source of the cochlear implant system and input signals representative of the stimulus.

European Patent No. 4255554, “Combination Hearing Aid and Cochlear Implant System,” relates to cochlear implant systems and receiving a status indicator signal indicative of whether an external auditory aid device (e.g., a hearing aid) is active, and updating a transfer function of a signal processor of the cochlear implant system to compensate for operation of the external auditory aid device if it is active.

European Patent No. 4255555, “Cochlear Implant Stimulation Calibration,” relates to calibrating current flow in a cochlear implant system. A switching network can be controlled to place a source element of a cochlear implant system in communication with a testing circuit. An amount of electrical current provided to the testing circuit can be determined, and the output of the source element can be adjusted based on the determined amount of electrical current.

European Patent No. 4319866, “Cochlear Implant System with Electrode Impedance Diagnostics,” relates to electrode impedance diagnostics in cochlear implant systems. A cochlear implant system can determine an impedance associated with a current path from a source element to a return electrode and determine one or more stimulation parameters for the source element based on the impedance. An example stimulation parameter can include a compliance voltage for the source element to provide a prescribed current.

“We will continue to invest in the development and protection of intellectual property as we grow,” Envoy Medical CEO Brent Lucas said. “We intend for Envoy Medical to be synonymous with meaningful innovation in the hearing loss industry for decades to come.”

The company claims its fully implanted Acclaim Cochlear Implant (Acclaim CI) is a first-of-its-kind hearing device, as it features a sensor designed to leverage the ear’s natural anatomy rather than a microphone to capture sound. The Acclaim CI is designed to address severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss that is not adequately addressed by hearing aids. The Acclaim CI is expected to be indicated for adults who have been deemed adequate candidates by a qualified physician.

The Acclaim Cochlear Implant received Breakthrough Device Designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2019. It is an investigational device only.

The Esteem fully implanted active middle ear implant (FI-AMEI) is the only FDA-approved, fully implanted* hearing device for adults diagnosed with moderate to severe sensorineural hearing loss allowing for 24/7 hearing capability using the ear’s natural anatomy. The Esteem FI-AMEI hearing implant is invisible and requires no externally worn components and nothing is placed in the ear canal for it to function. Unlike hearing aids, it does not need to be put on or taken off. The Esteem FI-AMEI hearing implant offers true 24/7 hearing.

* Once activated, the external Esteem FI-AMEI Personal Programmer is not required for daily use.
