Product can be used up to 30 days with multiple dressings.

San Antonio, Texas-based Acelity LP Inc. has launched its Nanova therapy system, an absorbent wound dressing, in European markets. Weighing 7.2 grams, the product is equipped with negative pressure for slow-to-heal wounds and can be used for up to 30 days with multiple dressings, company executives said in a news release. The product’s absorbent layer is effective at retaining exudate, which gets rid of the necessity for a fluid reservoir. “Existing NPWT devices can be seen as overly complex for the management of lower acuity wounds, particularly in post-acute settings where the majority of chronic wounds reside,” President/CEO Joe Woody said. “With the addition of the Nanova Therapy System, we provide clinicians with a convenient and cost-effective treatment option for these slow-to-heal wounds, while strengthening Acelity’s industry-leading portfolio across the total spectrum of wound acuity and care settings.” The Nanova therapy unit can be carried in a pocket, will not impede patient mobility, and may enable an earlier return to daily activities, the company claims. The dressing incorporates DermaTac protective seal technology, which provides an effective seal while enabling easy repositioning of the dressing as required. Importantly, in the community setting, the dressing will continue to absorb exudate even in the absence of negative pressure.
“In our experience, the Nanova Therapy system is intuitive to use, which is important because patients can self-manage between clinic visits and, because it is small, lightweight and silent, there is little impact on their lifestyle and normal activity,” said professor Keith Harding CBE, medical director at the Welsh Wound Innovation Centre in Cardiff, Wales. “The Nanova System enables the effective application of negative pressure therapy in an outpatient setting, which is a very useful alternative when managing wounds that are not responding to treatment with dressings alone.” Acelity, a global wound care and regenerative medicine firm, was formed from the mergers of Kinetic Concepts Inc., LifeCell Corp. and Systagenix Wound Management.
