A group of companies has joined forces to create a vertically integrated provider of medical device outsourced manufacturing services. The new company, called EG Gilero, recently was formed through the combination of Gilero Biomedical (Research Triangle Park, N.C.), Medacys Medical Devices Ltd. (Shenzhen, China), InField Medical (Durham, N.C.), and the medical businesses of eNNOVEA (Austell, Ga.) and ValTech Holdings (Rochester, N.Y.). The companies were brought together by Columbus, Ohio-based Ernie Green Industries Inc. (EGI). EGI already owned eNNOVEA. The other companies were bought and merged together, said Tim Hopper, chief marketing officer for EG Gilero. The goal, according to Hopper, was to leverage the medical device talents of these companies and create a unified organization that could “bring a device from design to distribution.” Hopper served as managing partner and co-founder of InField Medical. “Over the past year, market research was conducted with current and potential customers to uncover industry expectations and unmet needs. The outcome of the research was instrumental in EGI’s goal to create the broad design-to-distribution service offering of EG Gilero,” said John Walter, director of business development for eNNOVEA. The company’s new slogan is “Medical Innovation, Together”—which the leadership of the combined firm says is intended to demonstrate the company’s mission of being “an extension and trusted partner” of its customers’ internal efforts. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. EGI is privately held. Hopper said there will be no reduction or combination of facilities, and management teams of the previous companies will continue to run daily activities. The goal, according to the company’s leadership, is for EG Gilero to provide the medical device, drug delivery, and pharmaceutical packaging markets with a single-source resource for product design, development and manufacturing. “Being able to leverage tooling, full contract manufacturing, and supply chain management capabilities with Gilero’s design, development and regulatory capabilities was the next logical step to efficiently support our customers,” said Ted Mosler, president and chief technology officer of Gilero Biomedical. The consortium will offer design, tooling, testing, regulatory, manufacturing, device assembly, packaging and distribution/logistics services. “This unique strategic consolidation of capabilities and expertise will provide customers a new level of service, “said Jim Gaffney, president, ValTech Holdings. “I am very pleased the entire management team of the original companies will continue on with the new EG Gilero organization,” said Larry Jutte, president and chief operating officer of EGI. “Having their expertise and leadership will be a key factor in our future success of exceeding customer expectations.”
