Karl Storz Teams Up with Moon Surgical, Sovato to Advance Digital Surgery

Karl Storz has begun collaborating with Moon Surgical and Sovato to bring together advanced 3D visualization, robotic technologies, digital capabilities, and operating room integration.

The German medtech company hopes to create a more open, connected approach to OR surgical innovation, which expands access, supports workflow efficiency, and enables new possibilities for surgeons and patients.

French-American Moon Surgical’s Maestro surgical platform incorporates real-time, AI-native intra-operative features and workflow automation tools. By merging native, physical AI with data-driven insights and automation, Maestro aims make procedures more predictable and less variable.

Moon and Karl Storz will pair Maestro’s technology with the latter’s 3D visualization and workflow tools to provide efficient minimally invasive surgery to surgical settings ranging from hospitals to rural health facilities and ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs).

Earlier this year, Moon debuted active 5G and Wi-Fi connectivity for deployed Maestro systems that also pair NVIDIA Holoscan and NVIDIA IGX with centralized cloud AI to unlock fleet-wide intelligence.

Sovato is a California-based remote robotic surgery and procedure platform. With Karl Storz, the company hopes to power remote surgical collaborations and future applications in connected care. Future models of remote collaboration, learning, and surgical support will be created from two duo’s connected robotics and 3D visualization tech as well.

In November, the company closed a Series B financing round that brought total funding to $41 million, which was used to speed development of its platform and advance partnerships with surgical robotics companies, healthcare providers, and ecosystem collaborators.
