Velocity Group is opening a new 70,500-square-foot manufacturing facility that triples the company’s production capacity and offers cleanroom injection molding services to medical device and life sciences customers.

While cleanrooms are standard for medical device assembly and Velocity Group has offered U.S. Food and Drug Administration Class 7 cleanroom assembly for many years, the ability to execute the injection molding process inside a cleanroom provides critical contamination control and time-saving benefits, including:

  • Eliminating the need for a separate sterilization process to remove airborne particulates that can contaminate sensitive devices such as those involving implants, drug contact, or precision mechanisms
  • Using high-efficiency filtration, tightly-regulated airflow, and strict operator protocols including disposable clean suits, masks, and sterile gloves
  • Meeting customer demand from medical device companies seeking higher cleanliness standards

Opening in July, the new plant will consolidate three previous facilities, enabling the co-location of engineering, toolmaking, injection molding, and sub-assembly services. Such a strategy allows for faster iteration, improved process validation, and tighter alignment with quality system requirements.

Velocity Group bigwigs say the new facility also will take lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to the next level and enable more seamless and collaborative operation across all production stages. The result will be faster speed-to-market, improved quality control, and stronger outcomes for customers.

“This new facility will provide important efficiency benefits for all of our customers, and particular benefits for medical device and life sciences manufacturers,” Velocity Group Founder/Executive Chairman Kent Savage said. “Bringing injection molding into the cleanroom reduces contamination risk and rework, shortens validation and release timelines, and streamlines downstream sterilization.”

Velocity Group is an Ohio-based contract manufacturer specializing in high-mix, low- to mid- volume assembly, injection molding and tooling. The full-service product design and development company strives to turn concepts into reality while dramatically reducing time to profit. The company offers a design and manufacturing capabilities, including rapid time-to-market services for a diverse customer set, including entrepreneurs, middle-market companies seeking expansion, and advanced R&D centers at leading OEMs.
