Philips, NVIDIA Team Up on AI for MRI

The duo plans to build a foundational model for MRI that’s powered by NVIDIA’s advanced AI computing platform.

Philips has revealed a new collaboration with NVIDIA to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) advances for MR (magnetic resonance) imaging.

The duo plans to build a foundational model for MRI that’s powered by NVIDIA’s advanced AI computing platform. The model will be a large deep learning network trained on enormous datasets and lay the groundwork for a new generation of applications to enhance MR image quality, speed scan times, and boost diagnostic workflow and accuracy.

The foundational model will allow zero-click scan planning for different anatomies. Image enhancement tools like denoising, super-resolution, and sharpening aim to help radiologists develop more precise diagnoses.

Radiologists will be able to preview images and adjust quality and speed parameters before the scan. The model will also be able to facilitate automatic image finding detection and interpretation.

Philips and NVIDIA hope to build a solution that can be easily integrated into existing MR workflows. Philips said it’ll build on NVIDIA’s VISTA-3D, a specialized, interactive foundation model for 3D medical imaging, and MAISI, a 3D model engineered to create high-quality, synthetic images with or without anatomical annotations.
