Canon Medical, Olympus Team Up for Endoscopic Ultrasound

Canon Medical Systems and Olympus have formed a business alliance for endoscopic ultrasound systems.
 
Under the agreement’s terms, Canon Medical will develop and manufacture diagnostic ultrasound systems used in endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) and Olympus will undergo sales and marketing efforts.
 
The duo will combine Canon’s Aplio i800² diagnostic ultrasound system for EUS and Olympus’ Ultrasound Endoscope in an aim to offer the market advanced EUS equipment that can deliver high-quality image diagnoses. They said their efforts will start in Japan and Europe with plans for global expansion.
 
Canon said its strengths lie in advanced ultrasound image quality and tech like its D-THI, an image quality enhancement device, and SMI, imaging tech that allows delineation of extremely slow and fine blood flow. Olympus leverages decades of GI diagnostic equipment, having developed the world’s first practical gastrocamera.
