Asante Appoints Two New Executives

Thrower and Steuben bring experience from other industry leaders.

Asante Solutions Inc., a diabetes care medical device company based in Sunnyvale, Calif., is making two new additions to its executive team. David Thrower, coming over from InSound Medical, will take the post of CEO while Eric Steuben, from SRW Partners LLC, will be vice president of operations. Asante produces and markets the Pearl insulin pump.

Thrower previously served as CEO of Insound, manufacturer of a disruptive hearing aid system that was acquired by Sonova Holding AG in 2010. Prior to that, he was vice president of global sales and marketing at Align Technology Inc., a Netherlands-based medical device company focused on invisible orthodontics. He earned his undergraduate degree in mathematical and computational sciences from Stanford University and his MBA from the Harvard Business School.

Steuben most recently was co-founder and managing partner of SRW Partners, an executive search firm focused on medical device, biotechnology, and biopharmaceutical companies. He began his career in 1987 at Varian Medical Systems, where he remained for 10 years working his way up the ranks. He also worked as senior director of operations at Align technology, and vice president of operations at Microdental Laboratories. He received his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering and his MBA from Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, Calif.

Asante board member Rick Thompson highlighted Steuben’s background in both engineering and business education and experience as bringing “a unique perspective to the insulin pump category,” while chairman of the board Pete McNerney expressed enthusiasm for Thrower’s proven experience as CEO.
