NuSil Continues on its Road to Expansion

The company's new facility is well underway.

NuSil Technology LLC has initiated major facility and capacity expansion in Bakersfield, Calif. Based in Carpinteria, Calif., NuSil is a provider of silicone materials used in a variety of industries, including healthcare. The facility is projected to be a group of seven buildings on a 15-acre campus, three of which are already complete.

The newly completed third building increases the company’s polymer processing capacity while adding additional warehousing space. The fourth building, at approximately 35,000 square feet, is now under construction and is scheduled for completion in September. This new structure is intended to become the center for quality assurance, human resources and engineering, and will feature an enlarged quality assurance testing laboratory and expanded office facilities.

The next two buildings have gone though the design stager and are awaiting building permits.
NuSil just completed construction on a separate facility in April 2010—the company has been expanding steadily for several years. In keeping with its growth strategy, NuSil vice president of engineering Jim Yabsley noted, “The goal of this campus expansion is to increase plant capacity by three to four times over the next few years.”

Vice president of manufacturing, Bill Klansek, is hoping for “increased employment opportunities across many functional areas at NuSil Technology’s Bakersfield campus.” In a time where employment opportunities are fewer than they might be, this is always good news in the medical device industry.
