Flambeau Hires New Business Development Chief for Medical Unit

Phoenix, Ariz.-based Flambeau Medical Markets Group (MMG), a medical device manufacturing company, has been focusing its recent growth strategy around sales development. The company has appointed Mike Glynn as its new director of business development. Formerly regional director of Midwest sales for Flambeau’s Industrial Manufacturing Products Group (IMGP), it is hoped that Glynn will use his relationship with the IMPG sales force to identify and obtain new business for the Medical Markets Group. Company officials said that a critical objective of Flambeau is to manage its medical business from a regional perspective.

Glynn is a graduate of the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities in Minneapolis. His previous work experience includes time spent at ICM Plastics, a Rogers, Minn.-based mold and plastics manufacturing company; Charlotte, N.C.-based Dynacast, a manufacturer of small die cast components; and McKechnie Plastic Components based in Easley, S.C., a thermoplastics and contract manufacturer.

Flambeau Medical Markets Group was formed a year ago when Flambeau, a member of the Nordic Group of Companies Ltd., located in Baraboo, Wis., purchased Mastercraft Companies, a mold manufacturer and molder of precision medical components. While Flambeau was already in the medical arena with such products as medical emergency medical technician cases/kits, and intravenous components, the company’s goal was to develop a division that would provide new-product development, both for OEM customers and for proprietary products, intellectual property development, and assistance with commercialization of new products.

Since forming a year ago, Flambeau MMG has purchased a 16,000-square-foot building adjacent to the company’s two-building campus in Phoenix, Ariz. The building currently is being renovated to accommodate a 3,600-square-foot, class seven medical device assembly room. A separate class eight injection molding room will hold six all-electric molding presses. The company also recently attained its ISO 13485, the standard for medical device manufacturing and implementing recognized quality systems including radio frequency identification labeling, tracking, and traceability for internal controls to meet U.S. Food and Drug Administration standards.

The Phoenix facility currently operates 32 injection molding presses ranging from 55 to 450 tons clamping force. Flambeau MMG serves the cardiovascular device, orthopedic device, respiratory care, fluid management, and packaging segments within the medical market. The Phoenix operation also provides mold/tooling design engineering and manufacturing services.
