Samsung Buys Medical Imaging Company

Acquisition part of company strategy to grow healthcare business.

Samsung’s American unit, Samsung Electronics America Inc., has completed the acquisition of NeuroLogica Corporation, a computed tomography (CT) company headquartered in Danvers, Mass. NeuroLogica develops medical imaging products and is known for its portable CT scanners such as BodyTom and CereTom. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Since its purchase of Medison—now Samsung Medison—in 2011, Samsung has been working towards establishing itself as a significant healthcare products company. According to Samsung’s website, it aims to join its display, semiconductor, and mobile businesses, and expand its business to diagnostic imaging and medical IT systems.

The acquisition of NeuroLogica is one more step toward the expansion of Samsung’s medical imaging business. This expansion into medical imaging is part of Samsung’s new corporate vision of reaching $400 billion in revenue and becoming one of the world’s top five brands by 2020.

Samsung Electronics America is based in Ridgefield Park, N.J.
