Calbiotech Buys Moduline Systems

Acquisition is culmination of a 15 year partnership.

San Diego, Calif.-based Calbiotech Inc. has acquired Moduline Systems Inc., a microplate-dispensing and vial-filling equipment manufacturer. The Grass Valley-based company will become a business unit of Calbiotech, which made the acquisition in an effort to grow the business and expand product offerings.

Calbiotech custom-develops and manufactures immunoassay products used by reference labs, universities and research centers. Moduline Systems has been a partner of Calbiotech since 1998, making laboratory automation systems.

“After working closely with Moduline Systems for 15 years, a great relationship was forged between our organizations that led to this merger,” said Calbiotech Vice President David Barka. “As we grow and expand, we will be adding resources to ensure continued excellence in product quality, value, and customer service.”

Calbiotech and Moduline Systems will operate independently while under the same umbrella and leadership. The team who founded Moduline Systems has been retained to ensure continuity while under new management.

Calbiotech has grown its holdings in recent years, which now include Moduline Systems and Calbiotech Veterinary Diagnostics, formed after Calbiotech acquired the veterinary diagnostics division of Meridian Life Sciences, Inc.

“As we make strategic acquisitions and diversify Calbiotech holdings, there is tremendous carryover knowledge from the industry segments we have brought together, leading to innovations that ultimately benefit both our customers and our industry,” said Barka.
