Innovative Trauma Care Adds to its Board

iTraumaCare, an early-stage medical device firm focused on developing traumatic injury solutions for first responder and military medicine applications, has added Catherine (Cathy) Burzik to its Board of Directors.

Burzik has led several major medical device, diagnostic, diagnostic imaging and life sciences businesses. Most recently she served as president, CEO and director of Kinetic Concepts Inc., a medical device company specializing in woundcare and regenerative medicine that was taken private by Apax Partners in 2011 for $6.1 billion. During her tenure, KCI’s stock price doubled. Burzik led product innovation, global expansion as well as diversification into regenerative medicine through the $1.7 billion acquisition of LifeCell.

Prior to joining KCI in November 2006, Burzik served as president of Applied Biosystems, a life sciences DNA sequencing company. Burzik also has held senior executive positions at Eastman Kodak and Johnson & Johnson. She currently is a general partner at Targeted Technologies as well as a member of the board of directors of several companies including Becton Dickinson and Co.; the San Antonio (Texas) branch of the Dallas Federal Reserve Board; ViroXis Corporation; and the American College of Wound Healing and Tissue Repair. She has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y., and a master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Buffalo.
