Company provides contract manufacturing of precision instruments.
Avon, Mass.-based Ranfac Corp. has launched two new products. The first is the company’s patent-pending disposable Vacuum Pressure Handle (VPH). The VPH, which is designed to work on a polypropylene syringe, has been specially engineered to automatically maintain vacuum pressure inside the syringe while freeing up a hand for the clinician, making it an ideal accessory to improve the bone marrow aspiration (BMA) procedure, according to the company. First introduced during this year’s American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons annual meeting, the hands-free device can be snapped on and off in order to be used on multiple syringes during a single operation. Polypropylene syringes are used to handle cells due to their inert, non-stick surface which minimizes the threat of cell damage or activation during aspiration. Other plastics, such as polycarbonate, run the risk of cells adhering to the syringe walls and activating, which could significantly impair the usefulness of the resulting treating biologic, according to the company. The VPH snaps onto the outside of the syringe in its closed position, which ensures sterile technique since the syringe is not manipulated prior to the procedure. Once attached to the BMA device, the syringe may be pulled to two different positions on the VPH, depending on the amount of aspirate needed. The second device is the patent-pending “Double” Bone Marrow Aspiration system, which is a device used to aspirate marrow in small draws in a measured and controlled manner from the area closest to the inner bone endosteal surface, a surface that is rich in mesenchymal stem cells and that commonly is referred to as the hematopoietic stem cell niche. According to the company, the needle employs a unique design that only allows aspiration through the side holes of the needle cannula. This technique minimizes peripheral blood contamination that may occur from using a traditional bone marrow aspiration needle. The system is currently available to a select group of physicians as well as for OEMs and private labeling. Ranfac is a contract manufacturer that has provided the medical device industry with precision instrumentation for more than 100 years. The company offers product design through full-scale manufacturing, sterilization management, assembly and packaging within its 40,000-square-foot facility.
