The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is putting $2 million toward the development of medical devices for kids, according to the federal agency.

The grants, which will be distributed among three researchers in Michigan, Massachusetts and California, are to be put to use toward a segment of the population that medical devices are not often manufactured for: children.

Even though the U.S. market for medical devices is estimated at more than $90 billion, the demand for pediatric devices is tiny, which leads to littlefinancial incentives for medical device companies to invest in.
