BeamOne LLC will open a new electron beam medical device sterilization service center in Pittsburgh, Pa., in the fourth quarter of 2010, according to the San Diego, Calif., firm. The groundbreaking will take place in the fourth quarter of this year.

The new facility of the electron beam contract sterilization service provider will be the fifth for BeamOne; the others are located inCalifornia,Colorado, Ohio and Costa Rica. It will provide sterilization services for single-use medical device, pharmaceutical, and labware manufacturers, as well as tissue processors.

The Pittsburgh plant includes the opportunity to add a second electron beam system, doubling the capacity of the service center to meet customer demand, according to the firm.

“Our ability to add a fifth facility, following so closely after the January 2009 opening of our Costa Rica service center, emphasizes that electron beam is the sterilization modality choice of the future. The addition of our Pittsburgh center is one more stepping stone on BeamOne’s course of controlled expansion and growth,” said Glenn Thibault, president and CEO of BeamOne.
