BC Tech Offers Miniature Single-Use Video Camera

Reacting to the federal government’s effort to reform the nation’s healthcare, BC Tech has launched a 3 millimeter miniature single-use video camera that can be integrated into medical devices to improve safety and help reduce healthcare costs, according to the Santa Cruz, Calif., firm. The camera can be integrated into a variety of medical devices, including biopsy tools, ablation wands, catheters, tissue cutters and scopes. Ben Clawson, CEO, believes this product will have an effect in the developing world. “Millions of people in poor countries die because healthcare workers lack the equipment to properly diagnose common diseases. Procedures that are routine for Americans, like colonoscopies, are simply too expensive in many parts of the world.” Miniature camera chips for the device were made by imaging technology developer OmniVision, based in Santa Clara, Calif.
