Five months after acquiring Alpine Biomed Holdings Corp., baby test maker Natus Medical Inc. will lay off 50 employees as part of a reorganization plan, according to an article in the San Francisco Business Times.

In January, Natus Medical, based in San Carlos, Calif., announced a reorganization plan that included shifting Alpine operations in Montreal, Canada, to the existing Excel-Tech Ltd. facility in Oakville, Ontario, Canada, and merging the company’s global sales organization. Natus Medical acquired Excel-Tech in December 2007.

Natus, which is a provider of healthcare products used for the screening, detection, treatment, monitoring and tracking of common medical ailments such as hearing impairment, neurological dysfunction, epilepsy, sleep disorders and newborn care, paid $43.2 million in cash for Alpine in September.
