Tibion Corp. Co-Founder Resigns

Kern Bhugra, a founder of Tibion Corp., has resigned to pursue other opportunities, according to the company. Bhugra served as the company’s chairman, president and CEO.

“After seven very satisfying years at Tibion, it is time to pursue personal interests and opportunities,” said Bhugra. “I am pleased to have led the birth and growth of such a vibrant company and continue to be a strong supporter of Tibion’s unique opportunity in the rehabilitation of impaired mobility.”

Tibion is developing bionic devices for those with loss of muscle function due to disease, injury, aging or surgery. Its Bionic Leg helps people with limited mobility move around better.

Bhugra has held executive positions at Armonk, N.Y.-headquartered IBM and Maxtor (now Seagate Technology) in Scotts Valley, Calif., as well as at start-up companies. Recent positions include vice president and general manager of Storage Systems Business and executive consultant at NetApp Corp. in Sunnyvale, Calif.

NDS Surgical Imaging Adds Pair to Leadership Team

Increased growth within its corporate and product business units has prompted some management changes at NDS Surgical Imaging.

and Sam Brown has been named chief financial officer. The company also has appointed Jens Ruppert as vice president/general manager of the surgical business unit and Peter Steven to vice president/general manager of the radiology business unit.

In his new role, Zhou will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the company, including the marketing, sales, operations, surgical and radiology business units as well as global sales operations. Brown, who most recently served as vice president of finance at Santa Clara, Calif.-based NVIDIA, will lead all areas of finance, accounting, legal, human resources and information technology.

Ruppert has been with NDS Surgical Imaging for four years, holding sales and product management positions. As head of the surgical business unit, Ruppert will oversee all surgical engineering, marketing and product management for visualization systems and wireless products.

Steven will oversee product management, engineering and marketing of the Dome product line, which includes medical display products for diagnostic imaging and patient care applications.

Steven was previously co-founder and chief technology officer of Dome and helped design and develop the first medical imaging LCD display as well as display controllers for medical imaging.
Based in San Jose, Calif., NDS Surgical Imaging provides visualization systems for medical and surgical imaging devices.

Sanomedics Names Jordan Serlin Chief Operating Officer

Sanomedics International Holdings Inc. has appointed Jordan Serlin as chief operating officer. Serline also will sit on the board of directors, the company said.

Serlin has served as an adviser to CEO Keith Houlihan and operational consultant to Sanomedics since September 2009. The Miami, Fla.-based company manufactures and distributes medical and home health products.

Serlin’s previous roles have included stints as president and chief operating officer of Lawrenceville, N.J.-based Cenuco Inc., a cellular software service provider, where he helped lead the company’s sale to Ascendia Brands Inc. Previously, Serlin was the U.S. CEO of London, England-based Tenestra Inc., in which he led an initiative that resulted in General Electric’s acquisition of the company. Tenestra was a supplier of wireless digital video recording security systems. Serlin also has served as marketing chief for FortuneCity.com and currently is adviser to several private equity funds and consulting groups such as Ford Allen Inc. in Miami Beach and Ignite Venture Partners in Scottsdale, Ariz.

RS Medical Names Konsin President, CEO

RS Medical has named John Konsin as president and CEO. Former President and co-founder Rick Terrell is retiring but will continue to serve as chairman of the board, according to the company.
Terrell has played an instrumental role in the founding, management direction and growth of RS Medical, from introduction of its first home electrotherapy product in 1990 to growing the firm to more than 500 employees supporting multiple pain and function solutions products, the company said.
RS Medical manufactures non-invasive medical products designed to relieve pain and improve function.

Konsin served until September 2009 as vice president of sports surgery in the
surgical devices global business unit of Covidien, at its Waltham, Mass., facility. Previously, Konsin was executive vice president and general manager of Wilmington, Mass.-based Accellent Inc., where between 1999 and 2005, he served as general manager for the gynecology and vascular business unit. He also held the position of vice president of marketing of the endoscopy division of Smith & Nephew Inc.

“John Konsin brings executive leadership and over 30 years of experience in the medical device industry including general management, marketing, sales, business development and operations. With the support of our board of directors and management team, John is well equipped to guide our independent company to its next chapter of growth,” said Terrell.

CardioNet Inc. Appoints Chief Financial Officer

CardioNet Inc., a wireless medical technology company with a focus on the diagnosis and monitoring of cardiac arrhythmias, has appointed Heather Getz as senior vice president and chief financial officer. Getz, who was previously vice president of finance, succeeds Marty Galvan, who left the company to pursue other career opportunities.

Prior to joining CardioNet in May 2009, Getz was vice president of finance at Radnor, Pa.-based Alita Pharmaceuticals, a privately held specialty pharmaceutical company. Getz also has held several financial management positions at VIASYS Healthcare (now Carefusion) and Sunoco Inc.

BSD Medical Names Vice President of Engineering

BSD Medical Corp. has appointed Todd Turnlund as vice president of engineering. Turnlund has more than 20 years of medical device experience with startup and Fortune 500 companies.

His expertise includes translating unmet clinical needs into commercially successful products, creating intellectual property, developing new technology and transferring product designs to manufacturing. Turnlund has served in various research and development management positions with Precision Vascular Systems Inc. (purchased by Boston Scientific Corp. in 2004), Boston Scientific IsoStent Inc. (which merged with Cordis Corp. in 1998), and Guidant Corp. (bought by Boston Scientific in 2006). Turnlund will manage BSD’s engineering team and oversee projects.

Harold Wolcott, president of BSD Medical, said, “Todd Turnlund has managed engineering teams in the medical arena. He has managed effectively in large companies with multinational presence and small companies with more limited resources and challenging environments. Todd will be a valuable asset to BSD Medical as we position the company for future growth and profitability.” BSD Medical, based in Salt Lake City, Utah, is a developer of systems used to provide cancer therapies requiring precision-focused heat through microwave technologies.

SenoRx CEO Takes Leave of Absence

SenoRx Inc. Chairman and CEO Lloyd Malchow is taking an indefinite medical leave of absence to undergo cancer treatment. President and Chief Operating Officer John Buhler will serve as acting CEO, according to the manufacturer of minimally invasive medical devices.

Malchow will continue to serve on the Irvine, Calif., company’s board of directors and will remain involved in major strategic decisions during his leave of absence, the firm said.

“I am taking leave from SenoRx at a time when the organization is as strong as it’s ever been and has been performing well,” said Malchow. “Our management succession plan has been in place for some time now, and I am confident in John’s ability to lead the company forward in implementing and refining the company’s strategic plan.”

Buhler, who joined SenoRx in May 2008, has served as president and chief operating officer since October 2009. From April to October 2009, he was senior vice president and chief commercial officer, and from October 2008 to April 2009, he was vice president of global sales and business development. Additionally, from May 2008 to October 2009, Buhler served as vice president of international sales and business development.

Before joining SenoRax, Buhler was president and CEO at Ultrasonix Medical Corp., a privately held manufacturer of diagnostic ultrasound imaging equipment based in British Columbia, Canada. From 1998 to 2005, he held various positions at General Electric in Fairfield, Conn., last serving as vice president and general manager of GE’s Ultrasound Performance Technologies Division.
