U.S. Food and Drug Administration scientists who allege that the agency brushed aside warnings about the risks of radiation exposure during CT scans to check for colon cancer will voice their opinions Tuesday and Wednesday at a meeting called by the agency. The focus will be how to protect patients from unnecessary radiation exposure.

According to a notice in the Federal Register, the meeting will talk about steps makers of devices used in computed tornography and fluoroscopy can take to help reduce exposure to radiation.

Day 1 of the meeting will focus on equipment features that manufactures can incorporate into CT scanners and fluoroscopes. Day 2 will zero in one steps manufacturers can take to improve device user training and boost quality assurance.

Afterwards, the FDA will hold a roundtable discussion with select participants and agency staff.
