Mindray DS USA has unveiled an ultrasound system in the United States that is based on System on Chip (SOC) technology. SOC technology refers to the integration of all the necessary electronic circuits of diverse functions onto a single chip to create a complete electronic system that performs the more complex and more useful final production function.Rather than build an electronic product by assembling various chips and components on a circuit board, SOC technology allows all of these parts to be fabricated together on a single chip, which can function as the final product itself. The M7 ultrasound system, according to the company, features advanced imaging capabilities such as octal-beam imaging technology, which provides temporal resolution as well as the implementation of multiple tissue harmonic imaging technologies to improve the image quality for technically difficult patients. Some of the other notable features of the M7 system include the iZoom, which enables operators to view images from a longer distance by increasing the size of the clinical range image display area on the screen. A one-button iTouch option helps improve the quality of images, the company said in a news release. Tissue Doppler Imaging, Cine Compare and real-time 3-D are part of the M7 ultrasound system as well. The system also has an on-board workstation that enables medical professionals to manage patient information. Mindray executives said the M7 platform brings high-end imaging capabilities to an ergonomically designed portable system. “Part of Mindray’s commitment to supporting excellence in patient care is providing an ongoing stream of upgrades to our clinicians,” said Michael Thompson, Mindray’s vice president of sales and marketing. “This new upgrade to the M5 system is an example of offering our customers continous, state-of-the-art imaging, resulting in greater diagnostic confidence.” Besides launching the M7 platform, Mindray also introduced an upgrade to its M5 ultrasound system. The 3.0 release features full DICOM capability, networking, work list, MPPS, query and retrieve and structured reporting. Founded in 1991 in Shenzen, China, Mindray develops and markets medical devices through its three business segments: Patient Monitoring and Life Support Products, In-Vitro Diagnostic Products, and Medical Imaging Systems. The company has offices in Mahwah, N.J., and Redomond, Wash.
