GE Strikes Deals For Chinese and North American Customers

New partnerships bolster varying markets.

GE Healthcare has announced two new deals: one that will help establish its presence in the radiotherapy and diagnostics market in China, and one that will benefit its spectrometry customers in North America.

GE signed a memorandum of understanding with Beijing, China-based Concord Medical Services Holdings Ltd., which operates the largest network of radiotherapy and diagnostic imaging centers in China. The move comes shortly after the company announced plans to relocate its X-ray headquarters from Waukesha, Wisc., to Beijing.

According to GE, the partnership allows the companies to jointly navigate China’s rural and primary care markets. Additionally, Concord will get preferred subscriber status to purchase GE’s products at “the best possible prices.”

“Our strategic partnership will leverage the technological, financial and management strengths of both GE Healthcare and Concord Medical,” said Jianyu Yang, president and CEO of Concord Medical. “We will help pave the way for GE Healthcare’s further penetration into the Chinese health care market. At the same time, we look forward to introducing GE Healthcare’s medical products in our treatment centers and facilities for Chinese patients.”

GE’s other new partnership is with Foster City, Calif.-based AB Sciex, a global mass spectrometry company. The collaboration allows for on-site service and maintenance support of AB Sciex’s systems to GE customers throughout North America.

“Laboratory managers are increasingly looking to have one point of contact for service and repair to reduce costs, reduce instrument down-time and increase productivity,” said Eric Roman, GE Healthcare president of global commercial operations. “This agreement with AB Sciex in North America is an illustration of our strategy to provide the highest quality service support for our customers.”

GE Healthcare is headquartered in Fairfield, Conn.
