Cook Launches Women’s Health Unit

Cook Inc., a privately held medical device maker, has announced the launch of a new women’s health unit, as interest in gender-based medicine grows in the industry. Cook Women’s Health will focus on products that improve the quality of life for women in their teens until after menopause, officials from Cook Inc. said.
“Men and women are different and gender-based medicine is extremely important these days,” said Christina Anne, global leader of the company’s women’s health division. “Women are not just small men and we can’t just get the same treatment as men do because we’re very different.”
The Bloomington, Ind.-based company, which already offers devices for high-risk obstetrics and the growing market of fertility treatments, plans to launch new products by the end of the year. Devices for biopsy, pelvic organ prolapse surgery and postpartum bleeding are expected.
Cook executives will begin promoting the division at the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists meeting this week in Washington, D.C. They also plan a separate marketing campaign aimed at consumers to highlight the company’s goal of not just treating women, but improving their quality of life, Anne said.
