Santa Ana, CA-based Advanced Medical Optics has bought IntraLase of Irvine, CA for $808 million to expand its product offerings.

Along with increasing its line of offerings, the eye care products manufacturer will have cross-selling opportunities between the two companies’ customer bases. IntraLase is a manufacturer of vision correction lasers.

The boards of both companies have approved the deal and financial advisers for each are assessing the fairness of the offer. Following IntraLase shareholder and regulatory approval, the transaction is expected to close early in the second quarter.

Advanced Medical Optics said the deal will reduce earnings in 2007 and add slightly in 2008.
