Quest to Complete AmeriPath acquisition

Quest will complete its acquisition of AmeriPath this week.

Medical testing company Quest Diagnostics Inc. said Wednesday it plans to complete its $1.23 billion cash acquisition of diagnostic testing company AmeriPath Inc. on Thursday.

The company said antitrust waiting period on the deal expired on Tuesday.

The agreement, which was announced in April, calls for the assumption of about $770 million in debt.

AmeriPath, a cancer-diagnostics firm based in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., that also does DNA analysis, was acquired in early 2003 by buyout firm Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe for $658.8 million.

Shares of Quest closed Tuesday at $48.30.
