NxStage and Arbios Systems Sign Manufacturing Deal

Arbios Systems Inc., of Waltham, MA, a developer of devices to treat liver failure, has struck a manufacturing deal with Lawrence, MA-based NxStage Medical Inc. Under the agreement, NxStage will manufacture Arbios’ Sepet liver-assist device used in the treatment of liver failure.
    NxStage will produce the liver-assist device for Arbios’ pivotal clinical trials and potentially commercial supplies of the product upon regulatory clearance, according to the companies. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
    Arbios is a biomedical devices and cell-therapy firm focused on developing products that diagnose and treat liver failure.
    NxStage Medical manufactures and markets systems for the treatment of end-stage renal disease and acute kidney failure.NxStage reported a 2006 net loss of $39.6 million on revenue of $20.8 million.
